Induced

On this day last year Shaune and I trekked off to the hospital to have a baby. I was already nine days overdue. I was 185lbs and could barely walk. Everyday prior Shaune would ask me if I was excited. I really couldn't explain what I was. Of course I was looking forward to meeting whoever was in there face-to-face. But I was also terrified. Maybe it's just with your first baby that you worry the entire time - will he be healthy? will I carry to term? natural or C-section? Our medical team was wonderful. I had to have my care transferred from my midwife to an OB because my pregnancy had become a risk due to a condition called polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid). Early on the Doctor let us know that I would most likely have to have a C-section since I had not dilated much since the night before. I labored for 10 hours. Midway I asked for an epidural. At around midnite the Doctor came in and said "I think we're going to bring that baby out through the front door" and I didn't miss a beat replying "Take him out by any means possible!"

Happy Holidays

More new things

Picture of Deaglan minutes after he was born - from Grandma and Grandpa Mac

Aunt Chrissy made this for Deaglan - the L fell off in Deaglan's name

Lesa's mom Sharon made this for us before Deaglan was born

This is our new tree topper. It's sparkly and beautiful.

I finally found a nativity scene I could live with.

Clearly we have a ton to celebrate this Christmas. Last year we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at the hospital.

New

This is our new Advent calendar. We found it at Costco and I just love it. Within each day's cubby is a small wooden ornament that you hang on the gold pegs. Unfortunately (for my waistline) there is also room in there to store a Hershey's kiss.

Birthday party part one

Practicing for the big day

We've been telling Deaglan that it will be his birthday soon. At least once a day one of us sings "Happy Birthday to you" to him and last night we broke out the party hats and blowers in preparation for his first birthday party on Sunday. Okay so maybe Shaune and I are more excited than he is.

Sous Chef?

One of the things I feel so blessed to benefit from is Shaune's love of all things culinary. Not only have I enjoyed some truly scrumptious meals but it is also sincerely joyous to witness someone you love exercise his passions on a regular basis. Could I be so lucky to have both my favourite guys love cooking??
