It's how I roll

I don't know how to order a Starbuck's coffee. I could learn but I really don't want to. I usually say something like yeah, hi, could I get a coffee, something mild, equivalent to a medium?

I've never written the acronym LOL in a communication or used the phrase that's how I roll.

I'm not sure I'll ever join Twitter and I only started texting this year because Shaune insisted we upgrade our phones. Usually my texts are to Shaune and they say things like: Need cat food and ketchup.

I'm just not cool.

And I'm not writing this post to seem cool in some uncool nerdy way. I can accept that I'm not hip or trendy, I will never be on the cutting edge.
I've always been okay with this but I came face-to-face with it a few weeks ago when Shaune rolled his eyes because I announced excitedly: I think I'm gonna learn how to knit! I think he said something like: Why don't you knit yourself a shawl granny to keep yourself warm. If he knew anything about knitting, he'd realize that that's a lot harder to do than it sounds.

He wasn't frowning on knitting in general but just pointing out once again that motherhood has changed me, really changed me.

I like the changes. I think they suit me. I feel better in my skin than I ever have. At the end of the day I don't mind looking in the mirror and seeing my unkempt eyebrows, and stray grey hairs. I feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. It's okay that I didn't get everything done. I fed the kids, changed them, got them outside and tried to focus my energy on teaching them something, even if it was just how to use Elmer's glue or eat solids for the first time.

And hey, just because I didn't Tweet about it, people can still read all about it on my blog! Blogging makes me a little cool right?

Halloween was fun - Deaglan was a dinosaur and Naveen wanted no part of being costumed. Shaune and I took Deaglan out trick-or-treating (we only made it to about six houses before he was ready to come home) while gramma and grampa stayed home with Naveen to hand out candy. Thank goodness we had tons of trick-or-treaters and very little candy was left over.

  1. Kim,

First and foremost, thank you so much for your sweet and revealing comments on my blog. I am so sorry about your brother and I cannot imagine what that must have been like for you and your family. If you ever want to talk, I am here even though we don't know one another very well yet.

Love this post. Love how you are so at home with yourself and comfortable with everything...

I am not a coffee drinker either, and on the rare occasions I do go to Starbucks, I stand there in awe of the menu and how many different drinks there are. Oy!

Unfortunately I do use Twitter and often catch myself using LOL a lot. Oops. Must work on that.

Using Twitter and LOL, though---doesn't make you cool and trendy, so have no fear. I use both and I promise I am anything BUT cool and trendy!

  2. I'm with you! I don't get tweeting and I will not tweet. I'm always the last one to embrace the latest fashion, if I ever do. I will not, for example, EVER be buying a pair of UGGS. They are UGLY, people. Truly ugly.

I haven't visited since before the birth of your second son! Congratulations!!! :)

  3. I am so not a domestic animal - I detest cleaning the house, I really don't enjoy cooking although I do love baking. But where I really fail completely is with regards to things like sewing, knitting and anything craftsy.

I'm also a technophobe so have a basic pay as you go phone that only does calls and text messages and I still cannot get to grips with twitter and acronyms.

But I do know how to order my Starbucks the way I like it, which right now is a Grande, Decaf, Non-Fat, Light Foam, Xtra Hot Pumpkin Spice Latte! Heaven :-)

Love your little ones trick or treating outfit - glad you had fun handing out the candy.

  4. First of all, I had hardly any trick or treaters and I have TONS of candy left. You don't want to know how many pieces that I ate just today! I just started texting to a couple of people. It's becoming a quick and easy way to relay simple info without a big phone conversation. Can't wait to talk to you soon!!!!!!!!!!!! (can you tell that I'm excited about the possibility?)

  5. Well, I totally think you are cool. And if you knitted a shawl I'd really think you were awesome! This T Rex Mom knows nothing about ordering a coffee at Starbucks but I can order a mean hot chocolate!

I am so happy you are feeling comfortable with yourself. I sure think you are an amazing woman.

    Love the family photo, too!

  6. P.S. I don't text since we don't have a texting plan and I don't twitter either. Yep, I'm a dinosaur but I'm fine with that. I see too many folks missing out on life because they are too busy doing either of these things.

  7. I think you are amazingly cool just the way you are :)

  8. Personally, I don't think there is anything cool about writing LOL or going with the latest trendy phrase. I also don't order the way the want me to at Starbucks and in fact refuse to call the coffee sizes by their silly made-up names. What's wrong with small, medium and large? Coolness, i my book, is being comfortable with who you are. I'd tweet that, but I don't do Twitter either.

  9. I NEVER visit coffee shops, don't do Twitter or Face-Book, and I don't even know what LOL means, never mind use it! I haven't a clue how to text, but as I refuse to carry a mobile phone anyway, I guess it doesn't matter (my four cherubs and hubby each have one, I can reach them if I need to, but I prefer NOT to be at their beck and call)..

Hey girl, you and me are a match made in heaven!!

  10. For sure you are cool. In a parent meeting last night, there were SO many folks who knew nothing of blogging. I'm glad you are getting more and more comfortable...:)
